One Ton Cup - IC45 World Championship - One Ton Cup: And the winner is? |
SAINT TROPEZ, FRA-(12-10-2002) Quick step back : protests from yesterday have been judged in favour of K-Challenge One and K-Challenge Two, and all the general placing has been reversed, as Atalanti X has been disqualified on race 4 and Cavale Bleue on race 6.
Today the competition ends up with a fabulous sunshine and completely crazy wind : after a first race supported by the mistral wind, competitors had to be very patient to find the wind again in the second race, and to finish in the 2 last races with a wind and a tough sea that they didn't expect : the regatta ended up in an extremely sportive atmosphere.
Competitors are mainly very happy to have fought in this sailing area this week :
Paul Cayard agrees to say that he has made several mistakes in the regattas, but doesn't regret to have come in Saint-Tropez at all to participate in this new edition of the One Ton Cup. Paul has already won the One Ton Cup a few years ago, but gives up with as smile this time.
Of course when we're in the last day we hear many protests, even more than the days before, and the final placing is only provisionnal as the jury is still judging at the moment : K-Challenge One is for the moment at the top of the placing, even if Dawn Riley has lost control in the last regatta and takes the last place in this last race, she's very happy of her team work on board, and this is very motivating when we think about the great project they are looking forward to, in order to take part to the America's Cup in 2006.
She's followed very closely by Atalanti X and K-Challenge Two / Wolf who are ex-aequo at the moment (2 and 3 points of difference).
A second press release will follow tonight with the final results.
